The University of Akron Mary Schiller Myers School of Art Juried Student Exhibition

Emerging Artists’ Work Displayed at Summit Artspace

From March 14 to April 18, Summit Artspace Gallery is giving people an opportunity to view the latest creative trends by young, emerging artists.  The University of Akron’s Mary Schiller Myers School of Art will present its 2009 Juried Student Exhibition at the downtown Akron gallery, located at 140 E. Market St.  A meet-the-artists opening reception will be held Friday, March 13 from 5-7 pm.  The event is free and open to the public.

Each year, students are invited to submit work that is evaluated by an independent juror for display in the show.  Generally held at the university, the Juried Student Exhibition displays the best works by top student artists.  It will feature approximately 40 to 50 works by students from various areas of study including metalsmithing, photography, printmaking, painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and graphic design. Recognition will be awarded for Best of Show, second and third places, plus honorable mentions.  The juror is George Mauersberger, art department chair and drawing professor at Cleveland State University.
